Relationship Issues

When Relationships Keep Feeling Hard

Struggles in relationships don’t happen in isolation. How you connect, communicate, attach, withdraw, or protect yourself is shaped by your early relationships and the experiences that came before the ones you’re in now. In individual therapy for relationship issues, we focus on your patterns — not to assign blame, but to understand how your history influences the way you relate to others today. Together, we explore what keeps showing up in your relationships so you can begin responding differently, with more clarity and intention.

When Relationship Patterns Repeat

People often seek therapy for relationship issues when experiencing:

E

Conflict avoidance or frequent emotional overwhelm

E

Difficulty with trust, closeness, or vulnerability

E

Feeling unseen, unheard, or misunderstood

E

Fear of abandonment or fear of being too dependent

E

Questioning whether the challenges you’re facing are about you, the relationship, or both.

E

Struggles in family or long-standing relational dynamics

These challenges aren’t random — and they aren’t character flaws. They are patterns shaped by real experiences and relationships that mattered.

Onnie’s Approach

I approach relationship issues from a relational perspective, meaning we look at how early relationships, family dynamics, and past experiences shape how you relate to others today.

Much of our work focuses on understanding what you learned about connection — how closeness was handled, how conflict was managed, and how needs were expressed or ignored. Often, relationship struggles aren’t about the present relationship alone, but about older patterns being activated beneath the surface. This work helps you look inward and outward — recognizing both your role in relationships and the limits of your responsibility.

I’m not here to change you or anyone else — healing comes from within you, as insight and understanding create room for meaningful change.

As patterns become clearer, they often lose their grip.

What to Expect in Therapy for Relationship Issues

This work is about awareness, reflection, and choice, not judgment. Relationship struggles can feel frustrating and confusing — especially when they keep showing up despite your best efforts. Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and begin shifting the patterns that no longer serve you.
